International Yoga Day
21st June is observed as the international Yoga Day and it was first celebrated in 2015. Actually, the idea was proposed by India’s Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi on 27th September, 2014, during his speech at UNGA (United Nations General Assembly). And accepting the proposal, UNGA declared 21st June as International Yoga Day on December 11th, 2014.
An amazing thing about the adoption of this day is it was adopted without voting. The initiative taken by the India’s Prime Minister was supported by 177 nations out of the total 193 UNGA members. And the reason behind suggesting 21st of the June was the fact that it is the year’s longest day in the Northern Hemisphere and has a great significance in the different parts of the world.
